Kenneth Charles Drake age 87 of Owosso passed away Friday, November 3, 2017 at Green Acres of Mason Assisted Living.

Funeral Services will be held 1pm Monday November 27, 2017 at Nelson-House Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 12noon until the time of service.

Kenneth was born June 18, 1930 in Muskegon, the son of Hollis and Doris (Webster) Drake.  He attended school in Muskegon Heights, graduating from Muskegon Heights High School in 1948. He then enrolled in Muskegon Junior College and later Western Michigan University, where he received his Bachelor and Masters Degrees.

From 1952 until 1958 he taught Journalism and English at Marshall High School in Marshall, Michigan. In 1958, he went into the yearbook publishing business as a sales representative until retiring from Josten's Inc. in 1997.

Kenneth was active in the Jaycees, serving one year as Vice-President; the Elks; Kiwanis; and the Western Michigan Alumni Association. He was a winter resident of Apache Junction, Arizona and made many friends while serving as a volunteer at Banner Baywood Medical Center in Mesa. Kenneth and Mary Lou were members of the Mesa Arts Center and the First United Methodist Church in Owosso and Desert Chapel UMC of Apache Junction.

 

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary Lou, whom he married in 1950. He leaves behind his children Roxanne (David) Dixon of Locust Grove, Georgia, Robert Drake of Mason, Randi (Angelo) Manas of Holt and Kendra Drake of Westminster, Colorado; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law Keith and Roberta Pohl of Mason.


In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Heartland Hospice.
