Joan Alice Melzow, 95, of Owosso, passed away on Thursday, April 5, 2018 at the Chelsea Retirement Community.  A visitation with the family in memory of Joan will be held on Thursday, April 26, 2018 from 4-8pm at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, Jennings-Lyons Chapel.  A memorial service was held on Monday, July 9th, at Owosso First United Methodist Church with Pastors Deane Wyllys and Grant Lobb officiating.

Joan was born on February 13, 1923 in Flint, Michigan the only child of the late Harry B. and Nellie M. (Collard) Dillon.  She graduated from Arthur Hill High School in Saginaw and earned a Bachelors degree in education from Central Michigan University.  On June 6, 1945 she married Leroy W. Melzow in Saginaw and together raised four daughters.  

Joan was a member of the First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women.  She was a Girl Scout Leader, a member of the Shiawassee Historical Society, the Shiawassee Arts Center, and she also played many years for the Shiawassee Chamber Orchestra. 

Joan is survived by her four daughters; Martha (Gerry), Peggy Semple, Mary (Dave), and Sally Sterling.  Her grandchildren; Kristin (Brett), Brian (Michelle), Sean (Jamie), Sarah (Joe), Matt, step-grandson, David, and her great-grandchildren; Christopher, Kyle, Reece, and Max.  

She was preceded in death by her husband Leroy, her parents, and sons-in-law Steve and Mike.  

Memorial contributions in Mrs. Melzow's name are suggested to  the Alzheimer's Foundation or the American Cancer Society.
