Dorothy Louise Kates, age 84 of Owosso, passed away on March 5, 2016 at Memorial Healthcare Center in Owosso. A memorial service will be celebrated at 11am on March 9, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church, 1500 N. Water St. Owosso, Pastor Calvin Long will officiate.
Dorothy was born on March 5, 1932 in Fayetteville Tennessee to the late Walter and Rachael (Land) Sisco. She graduated from Taft High School in Tennessee and attended college to become a nurse. In 1951 she married Leonhardt Isaac Parker, they would spend 48 years together until his passing in 1999. In 2004 Dorothy would marry Reade Kates in Port Huron and he survives her.
Dorothy is survived by her husband Reade, her two children; Debra Lynn (Rafael) Barela, and Van W (Delia) Parker, also five step-sons and their spouses. Her grandchildren; Mark Anthony Sweeney, Selena Louise (Mark) Bashaw, and Shawn Graham Sweeney. Three great-grandchildren, one great great-grandchild, ten step-grandchildren, and one step-great grandchild that's on the way and one sister Virginia Barnett.
She was predeceased by both of her parents, her first husband Leonhardt, two brothers and one sister.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the First United Methodist Church.
